Welcome to the Digital Dispensary

A blog dedicated to the cultural, scientific, and medical practices of making and consuming medicines.

I am an Associate Professor in German at the University of Oxford and in 2016 I will be working at the Science Museum London while they redesign their Medical History Gallery due to open in 2019.

The Digital Dispensary will bring together objects, images, and stories from my work on the cultural history of pharmacy. I am particularly interested in the intersections between literature and pharmacy and much of what will be on display on the virtual shelves here will be drawn from these interests.

Beware of risks and side-effects. As the Greeks knew, the pharmakon could both heal and poison. The Digital Dispensary is not intended to provide medical advice; that is a matter for doctors and patients only.
